Bedaquiline Receives Accelerated Approval from the FDA for MDR-TB Rx
The FDA granted Janssen’s TB drug Bedaquiline accelerated approval for treatment of MDR-TB. A link is provided to the FDA press release and Janssen’s full press release is included.
FDA Advisory Committee recommends Janssen’s Bedaquiline for accelerated approval
Yesterday, Nov. 28th, the FDA Ant-infective Drug Advisory Committee voted to recommend Janssen’s Bedaquiline for accelerated approval for the treatment of MDR tuberculosis. A summary of the proceedings is included.

This week we highlight an interview with Dr. Andrew Vernon, the Chief, Clinical Research Branch, Division of Tuberculosis Elimination at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He discusses the progress made in TB drug development and the growing number of TB trials and trials groups.
Launch of the Good Participatory Practice Guidelines for TB Drug Trials
The Stakeholder and Community Engagement Workgroup of the Critical Path to TB Drug Regimens initiative launches guidelines that will facilitate the involvement of communities and participants in the conduct of TB drug trials.
Live Streaming of Demystifying Pyrazinamide Workshop–September 5 & 6
On September 5 and 6, 2012, the “Demystifying Pyrazinamide – Challenges and Opportunities” Workshop will be held at Johns Hopkins University and is sponsored by National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Johns Hopkins University Center for AIDS Research, and the Stop TB Partnership Working Group on New Drugs. There will be live streaming available.
2012 WGND Annual Meeting is Nov 14 in Kuala Lumpur
We will have our 2012 Annual Meeting in Kuala, Lumpur on Wednesday, November 14 at the Impiana KLCC Hotel from 13:00 to 17:30. The meeting will be held in conjunction with the 43rd Union World Conference on Lung Health.
